Odense City Walk
Parking in Odense
How to park easily and conveniently in the city centre
Parking in downtown Odense
Plenty of parking available
Are you driving in Denmark and heading to downtown Odense – maybe for a city tour – and in need of parking? No problem!
There are plenty of parking spaces in Odense, even in the city centre.
Odense City Parking
Ever since they built the new spacious parking facility under the city center, I've never had any trouble finding a parking spot myself.
The underground garage isn't your typical dark and eerie structure; it's more like a street running beneath the city centre. You can simply drive through and decide if you want to park there. It offers a total of 900 spaces.
As these are public streets, the parking spaces are open 24/7.
I took a photo so you can get an idea:
Extended Underground Garage
Since the underground garage is quite long, it's worth paying attention to where you park.
Choose the Best Exit
Because the facility is so large, it's important to pay attention to where you park - this affects where you come out in the city.
Two types of signs can help with this:
-
The red and green signs hanging from the ceiling.
-
The large black signs that mark the exits.
For example, if you want to visit the H.C. Andersen Museum, follow the red signs that say "Parkering H.C. Andersens Hus" (see photo).
Pedestrian Zone (mall) and City Walk
If you want to go to the pedestrian zone and the main shopping street (Vestergade), the easiest way is to look for the large black signs P18 and P20.
These exits are in the same part of the underground garage as the H.C. Andersen House.
These are also the exits that will take you directly to the meeting point for the City Walk "The New Odense -- A Different Kind of City Tour".
Parking Costs
Parking is not free, just like everywhere else in downtown Odense.
There are some spots in front of shops and along streets where you can park for free, but only for limited periods. Typically, it's 30 minutes to 1 hour. There are a few places where you can park for 2 hours for free, but these are not located directly in the inner city centre.
How to Pay
After arriving, go to one of the many red machines (see photo). The machines "speak" English (and German and Danish).
Enter your car's license plate number and choose a payment method (Visa, Mastercard, or Maestro Card).
You don't need to place a receipt visibly in your car. Registering the license plate number is enough.
When you are done parking, insert your card into the machine again, and the appropriate fee will be charged.
As of 2024, parking costs 22 kr. per hour. This is the same price for all parking spaces in downtown Odense.
For more information on prices, height restrictions, charging electric cars, etc., you can visit the operator's website.
How to Find the Parking Lot / Garage?
The parking lot runs north-south. Depending on which direction you're coming from, one entrance might make more sense than the other.
Here are the Google Maps locations of the two entrances:
